East Midlands Big Bang Fair

Date
Date
Saturday 9 February 2019
Location
Hosted by Leicester Grammar School

The East Midlands Big Bang Fair was held on Saturday 9th February 2019 at Leicester Grammar School.  The Fair was attended by over 4,000 people, giving both Peter Morris and Ian McPherson from the University of Warwick, the opportunity to present their research to the wider public.

Peter used the crystallisation of cocoa butter (aka chocolate) to explain polymorphism while Ian discussed the importance of crystals in nature using the ‘Meldrum Group’s’ impressive collection of biological crystals and corresponding weird and wonderful scanning electron micrographs.  The two hope to take the same stall to a number of events this year, including the Family Day at the University of Warwick as it hosts the British Science Festival.
