Blane Keating is a PhD Student at the University of Warwick working under the supervision of Professor Patrick Unwin.  Before beginning his PhD, Blane completed his Undergraduate Degree in Medicinal Chemistry at Trinity College Dublin, where he was awarded the Cocker Prize for the Best Chemistry Senior Sophister Research Project, which involved the synthesis and characterisation of Iridium based photochromic molecular switch complexes.

Blane went on to join the MAS CDT at the University of Warwick and completed two research projects over the course of his Master’s Degree which investigated different facets of crystallography.  The first project combined CASTEP and experimental NMR spectroscopy to identify cocrystal synthons with citric acid as a conformer, the second, which would lead on to his PhD, included the investigation of L-Cystine nucleation and growth and the analysis of inhibitor’s impact on the systems routine response.
