PhD Student
Location
University of Leeds

Thomas is a PhD student nearing completion at the University of Leeds, working under Professor Fiona Meldrum to study the impact of surface topography on crystal nucleation and polymorphism.

Thomas studied as an Undergraduate at the University of Leeds, where he obtained his Integrated Master’s degree in Chemistry.  For his third year he studied at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he undertook a research project working with Professor Ignacio Vargas-Baca on supramolecular organotellurium species.  Afterwards, Tom joined Fiona Meldrum’s Group to take on a microfluidics-based research project, where he studied the nucleation and growth of gypsum crystals in a droplet array.  During his Master’s year he worked with Dr Natalia Sergeeva on synthesising graphene-titanium dioxide hybrid materials for redox photocatalysis, for which he won the Perkin Centenary Prize for Chemistry.
